Motivate Your Team
Big or small, it is important to any organization to have motivated, hard-working employees. When employees lose their motivation their work tends to suffer; they become less productive, less creative, and less valuable to the company. At the end of the day it is the business that will suffer the most from unmotivated employees.
Here are some quick tips on how to revitalize your staff and get them motivated:
- Build a Strong Foundation – Make sure all employees are aware of the company’s history, the mission statement and future goals of the organization. Make sure you are also aware of employee expectations and career goals. When employees feel like they are part of a team they will feel invested in the company.
- Promote a Positive Environment – Leave office doors open and let employees know they are free to approach management with any concerns, questions or ideas. All employees should feel valued and appreciated; creating this positive atmosphere will lead to an efficient and productive office.
- Give Direction – Set goals to work towards. Most employees are looking to advance and grow within the company. Work closely with employees to develop a career path that will develop current skills and focuses on future goals. Employees will be excited about future opportunities and become more engaged in their day to day work.
- Educate Employees – The best way to improve your employees’ professional skills is by providing on-the-job training or in-house career development. Encourage them to attend seminars and workshops that are related to your industry. Employees feel valued when a company invests in them and will naturally improve work performance.
- Be Fun – Every now and then you need to put work aside and do something nice for your employees. You don’t have to go crazy either, treating the office to pizza, allowing a casual day or letting employees out early on a Friday, will go a long with employees.
- Recognize Employees – Boost employee morale with a small token of appreciation. Give Incentive. Incentives can be small; such as a gift certificate or handing out plaques and awards. Incentives motivate employees to work towards their own career goals as well as the organization’s goals.
- Know Strengths and Weaknesses – Improve employee motivation by improving employee confidence. Assign projects to employees based on their talents. When an employee can successfully finish a project they gain the self-confidence needed to tackle the next project with positive energy and excitement.
